Workshop Overview

​This full-day immersive playwriting workshop offers a hands-on, energising experience for playwrights, theatre-makers, and storytellers of all levels. Whether you’re emerging or established, participants will engage in creative exercises exploring character, structure, conflict, dialogue, and theatricality under the expert guidance of Augusta Supple. Drawing on over 25 years of international experience, Augusta’s approach celebrates curiosity, risk-taking, and collaborative creation. Participants will leave the workshop with new material, a deepened understanding of their writing practice, and meaningful connections with fellow artists.

This Masterclass will:

  • Ignite new creative ideas and approaches to playwriting

  • Deepen exploration of character, voice, and dramatic action

  • Provide a safe, supportive space for experimentation and feedback

  • Generate short scenes or monologues for the stage

  • Build a sense of artistic community and peer support

  • Equip writers with tools, provocations, and strategies to continue developing their work

About the Presenter:

Augusta Supple is an award-winning theatre director, playwright, and creative producer with a career spanning over 25 years across Australia, the USA, and Canada. Known for her dynamic and collaborative approach to new work, Augusta has commissioned and produced over 200

playwrights, creating multi-authored works that celebrate multiplicity, thematic layering, and bold experimentation. Her past creative producing credits and play generators include: Artistic Director of the Brand Spanking New Festival of New Australian Plays (New Theatre), Creative Director of Stories from the 428 (Sidetrack Theatre) and A View from Moving Windows (Riverside Theatres), and Festival Co-Director of the Mayday Playwrights Festival (Tap Gallery Theatre). She has led play generators including Write Here, Write Now (Brand X/ Queen St Studios, Sydney), Masterclass (Guelph Little Theatre, Canada) Voices at the Market (American Playwrights Center, Minneapolis USA), Play Parramatta and Parramatta Play Mates (Parramatta), Write Here, Write Now (Lake Macquarie) and Playing Wyong (The Art House Wyong). In 2025 she will be working with Playwrights at English Theatre Leipzig, English Theatre Utrecht in Europe, and Ojai Playwrights Conference and Festival (California, USA) and Playwrights Center, (Minneapolis, USA)

This workshop is ideal for:

• Playwrights at any stage of their career

• Theatre-makers interested in writing for performance

• Writers from other disciplines (poetry, prose, screenwriting) curious about writing for the stage

• Anyone seeking creative renewal, artistic challenge, or a playful, collaborative environment
